KONG SUNGHUN_BLIND-WORK 2023

국립현대미술관(MMCA) 《백 투 더 퓨처 – 한국 현대미술의 동시대성 탐험기》 전시에 출품된 공성훈 작가의 〈블라인드〉(1992) 작업의 기술적 복원을 진행하였다. X자 형태로 설치된 전동 블라인드가 개폐하며 빛을 반사하는 이 설치 작품은, 일상적인 사물을 기능이 아닌 시지각적 요소로 전환한 작가의 초기 매체 실험을 보여준다. 1992년 X세대 담론이 대두되던 시기에 제작된 이 작품은, 당시 주류 미술에 대한 대안적 시도로 평가되며, 이번 복원을 통해 본래의 키네틱 구조와 감각이 전시장 안에 다시 구현되었다. 이번 전시는 2018년부터 2022년까지 수집된 소장품을 중심으로, 1980년대 후반부터 2010년대까지의 시기를 아우르며 한국 현대미술의 동시대성을 조망하고자 기획되었다.

We restored Blind (1992) by Kong Sung-hun for the MMCA exhibition Back to the Future – Exploring Contemporaneity in Korean Contemporary Art. The motorized X-shaped blinds reflect light as they move, transforming a functional object into a sensory experience of light, color, and motion. Created during the rise of X-generation discourse, the work marks an early media experiment that challenged the mainstream art of its time. The restoration reactivated its original kinetic form and presence within the exhibition. The show featured key MMCA acquisitions from 2018–2022 and traced the trajectory of Korean contemporary art from the late 1980s to the 2010s.
